CONE-BASED INSTRUMENTS
My work on cone vibrations began a couple of years ago. I made a few plucked string instruments with this very characteristic sound, and then, I discovered that it was possible to use the cone for bowed string instruments… A whole new world opened up to me! The first attempts were a bit hectic, hoever, it lead me to discover the work of Peter Biffin (an Australian luthier who was honored by Queen Elizabeth, no less!). After a few fascinating exchanges, I ventured to ask him a few questions, and to my great surprise, he sent me files with all of his research on cone vibration! Needless to say, I saved a lot of time (thanks, Peter!)
The sound reinforcement work is also quite complex, given the flexibility of the cone. At this moment, it seems to me that I have reached an acceptable result and I have decided to put these instruments in the catalogue: gemaud and gemaud guitar for plucked strings, violin, viola and cello on cone for bowed strings… I hope you will like them, so many possibilities still remain to be explored.
